How It's Calculated
Score Needed = (Target − Current × (1 − Weight)) / Weight
Example: (90 − 85 × 0.80) / 0.20 = 110% needed
Example: (90 − 85 × 0.80) / 0.20 = 110% needed
If the required score is over 100%, you'd need extra credit or a curve. If it's negative, you've already secured your target grade!

Needing over 100% means your current grade is too low to reach your target even with a perfect exam score. You can either adjust your target grade, ask about extra credit opportunities, or hope for a curve. Some teachers do allow exam scores above 100% with bonus questions.
A negative score means you've already secured your target grade regardless of your final exam performance. For example, if you have 92% going into a 15% final and want 90%, you'd need only 18.7% on the exam - practically guaranteed.
